Bull Elk Battle during a Test Flight of a DJI Mavic 2 Pro
We moved this year 360 miles north from San Francisco CA to Crescent City CA, to a beautiful 20-acre property. We frequently get herds of elk passing through, but this week in particular they were grazing on the leaves of sick trees we cut down in our orchard. It's mating season, and the bulls gather up the females and aggressively protect them.
Luckily, I had a Mavic 2 Pro in the air for a test flight when I spotted some bull elks getting prepared to fight. I had my pilot zoom in post to get a better view of the action. In the end, a bush ended up breaking up the fight. That bush has now perished at one end of a bulldozer. Such drama!
On another note, the drone did not pass the test flight. The gimbal is very drifty, which you may have noticed as the camera never stayed still on the subjects.

Hello, and thank you for the video! I used your video to remove the gimbal/camera, so that I could access the IMU below and behind it. I was having getting an "IMU Error" and under advanced settings menu it was showing IMU 01 Data Error. After removing the camera I gently tapped on the IMU with the tip of my hex driver. I inserted the battery and booted up the drone but still got the error. I then turned the drone over and tapped the IMU while powered up and the Data Error cleared and the IMU warning went away. Thanks again as this was much easier than taking apart the whole drone to get to the IMU.

Great instructions. I am just curious. Is it possible to remove the gimbal & the camera for using on another kind of drone/platform? I guess if we know the wiring diagram of those ribbon cables then it may be possible. But how do we know that? Thank you for the information.

Hey, I have mavic pro. I am turning it on after a long time. It have been sitting in storage. Now the drone turn on fine but the gimble is not moving how it supposed to move when drone turn on. The video feel and every this else is normal, there is no warning on the controller or in the app. And I can’t move gimble from the app too. Do you think this cable could be the issue?
Hi there, it is definitely sounding like the ribbon cable is defective. The cable can wear out over time, even when just in storage. It wears out especially quick if it is stored/transported without a gimbal lock to secure the gimbal in place. Hope this helps! If you need a repair, you can reach out to us as well :)

I replaced my ribbon cable with a new one. I met started well and I was happy it worked. Unfortunately, after flying for 20min, the same gimbal motor overload issue reappeared. And the gimbal gets hot really fast, only after starting the drone for 30sec it’s already very hot. I opened the gimbal again and tried fixing the ribbon cable. But it didn’t help. Any idea what else I could do? Replace the whole gimbal? Buy another ribbon cable from another company? Thanks
Hi there, so sorry to hear about your drone :( it sounds like one of the motors or even electronics board is damaged on the gimbal. The gimbal is overworking itself and thus overheating. Unfortunately, this would mean that the gimbal assembly would need to be replaced. It was not an issue with replacing the ribbon; just the gimbal had this issue on top of the ribbon issue. If you get a replacement gimbal, make sure you get a whole assembly and not just the arms. The arms that are currently circulating around are usually taken from crashed drones, many not even tested before being shipped to you. You mention at the ends of these videos to "reassemble in reverse order", but how about making another video actually showing that reassembly?
Those rubber vibration dampers aren't the easiest to get back on, even with tweezers. Took me almost 45 minutes for just one of them, but then, at my age (in my mid-60s), my hands and fingers aren't as steady as they used to be. My Mavic Pro flies (and does it well), but I get no video feed from the camera. It wasn't crashed or even hard landed, either. Just no video from the camera. I DO have gimbal control with either the wheel or the 5-way button, though and the gimbal goes through it's little 'dance' when booting up.
Gonna watch this one and the previous one for removing the gimbal several times each, as I have to do this with my MP - gimbal DOES go thru it's 'dance' when booting up, but I get no video feed from it when I go to fly and no gimbal control from the wheel or the 5-way button.
One of the four rubber bands on my damper plate for the gimbal popped out. Is there an easy way to pop it back in or do I need to disassemble it?
Hi there, thank you for reaching out :) if the band is not torn, then what we typically do is we take a pair of precision tweezers and gently push it back in. You can use any pointy instrument really. Just be gentle with the gimbal when holding the gimbal out of the way; don't want to cause a torn ribbon! - Anita @ FixaCrash

Haha, thank you. I wish I could, but things are just so crazy busy right now and it is pretty much just me! Sadly it's been hard to find some help, especially since I recently moved (to the place in the video above!) and because of the pandemic. Absolute night mare to try and replace, buy 10 cables, you might get 1 to work, pins fold over instantly if you aren't lined up, route for ribbon is not simple to replicate, there are fold lines and bends to return to the same area, threaded through little cracks and wadded up and twisted if you don't know how to do it. Good luck. I wasted my time and money, now I will buy a full replacement gimbal and camera and move the F on to filming.
